Massage & Mobilisations
During our assessment I will identify any soft tissues that have an altered state due to injury or compensatory issues. An appropriate massage technique will be selected and then applied to the area.
Massage aids to relieve areas, tension, soreness, stimulates soft tissues to help encourage blood flow and effective waste removal. Joint mobilisations and stretches will also be applied when appropriate to increase flexibility and suppleness.
Electrotherapies
We utilise a variety of electrotherapies to improve muscle tone, enhance healing, reduce pain and increase flexibility and suppleness.
Electrotherapies can be useful in treating areas of muscle tightness, joint pain and encouraging repair following tendon injuries. Electrotherapies included:
- TENs Machine
- NMES Machine
- Laser Therapy
- Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT)
Home Exercise Programmes
During treatment an exercise plan is created which is tailored to your animal’s specific and individual requirements.
These will be demonstrated to ensure you fully understand the exercise. Completing the plan between your Veterinary Physiotherapy sessions enables us to achieve the best results.
Management Advice
Environment advice will also be discussed to ensure the best possible recovery post injury or whilst managing a chronic condition.
This will involve the housing environment, nutrition, exercise regime and discussion of medication and supplements.
